London Orthotic Consultancy
London Orthotic Consultancy (LOC), founded in 2004, is a private clinic providing bespoke orthotic assessment and treatment for a wide range of adult and paediatric conditions.
In 2015, we began working with Elaine Owen, a physiotherapist with more than 50 years of experience specialising in movement disorders in children. Her work focuses on understanding how children walk and on the design of orthoses, including ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs), to support movement. Together, we established the Optimal Segmental Kinematics and Alignment approach to Rehabilitation (OSKAR) clinic to provide specialist orthotic care for children with complex movement needs.

We work with a number of London hospitals, including The Portland Hospital. We provided orthotic treatment for their first Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) patient in 2016 and now carry out inpatient orthotic assessments there at the request of the clinical team.
We have gait laboratories at our Kingston, Cambridge and Manchester clinics. These allow us to measure joint angles, muscle activity and ground reaction forces in detail. This helps inform orthotic assessment, prescription and fitting, and supports objective monitoring of progress over time.
Our bespoke orthoses are designed to support function and mobility, provide structural support and help manage the effects of contractures and deformities as children grow. We manufacture most of the orthoses we provide ourselves, which supports quality control and helps reduce lead times.
We understand that children develop movement patterns and gait characteristics from an early age. Correctly prescribed and well-designed orthoses can play an important role in supporting development over time. Our aim is to provide bespoke orthotic treatment that supports each child’s function, mobility and changing needs as they grow.
