The Terms & Conditions set out how Just4Children manages fundraising campaigns, protects donor intent, and ensures funds are used solely for the charity’s medical purposes.

Eligibility

  • Only parents or legal guardians with full parental responsibility may apply.
  • Each child receives an individually approved fundraising campaign.
  • Campaigns must support children in the UK or Ireland up to age 25.

Campaign Requirements

  • Campaigns must be:
    • specific and transparent;
    • medically focused;
    • based on a defined medical need and expected benefit.
  • Separate campaigns are normally required for:
    • home adaptations;
    • wheelchairs over £2,000;
    • WAV vehicles;
    • accessible gardens;
    • care at home;
    • holidays or wellbeing breaks;
    • new therapies over £5,000;
    • therapy exceeding specified financial thresholds;
    • specialist equipment over £2,000.
  • If two fundraising purposes are listed without allocations, funds are normally treated as 50:50 between them.

Campaign Management

  • Campaign wording is approved by the charity.
  • Money can only be released for purposes included within the approved appeal.
  • Any change in purpose requires trustee approval before funds are released.
  • Campaigns normally last three years, may continue while active, and are reviewed after 12 months of inactivity.
  • Campaigns are renewed every five years if continuing.

Fundraising Rules

Families must not:

  • operate competing crowdfunding pages;
  • raise money through other fundraising platforms without approval;
  • create separate Facebook, PayPal or crowdfunding appeals.

Failure to comply may result in campaign closure.

Charity Promises

Just4Children:

  • charges no management fee;
  • pays fundraising platform transaction costs;
  • claims Gift Aid where eligible;
  • pays suppliers directly;
  • provides campaign materials and media support;
  • coordinates payments for treatment and approved associated costs.

Releasing Funds

Trustees release funds when:

  • expenditure matches the campaign;
  • sufficient funds are available;
  • appropriate invoices and medical evidence are provided;
  • payment aligns with the charity’s purposes and policies.

The public fundraising target does not need to be reached before payments are made.

Travel and Accommodation

The charity may fund:

  • economy travel;
  • reasonable accommodation;
  • living allowances;
  • mileage;
  • certain overseas treatment costs.

Restrictions include:

  • treatment must normally be funded first;
  • accommodation must be medically necessary;
  • limits on trip numbers and duration;
  • stricter rules for treatments in holiday destinations;
  • ancillary costs generally cannot exceed treatment costs without exceptional circumstances.

Specialist Equipment

Funding is generally available for:

  • wheelchairs;
  • hearing and vision equipment;
  • specialist beds;
  • lifts;
  • disability-specific equipment;
  • sensory equipment;
  • certain therapeutic devices.

Medical confirmation may be required.

Equipment purchased remains a charity asset and may be returned for reuse when no longer needed.

Additional Funding Areas

The charity may support:

  • wellbeing holidays through dedicated campaigns;
  • accredited assistance dogs;
  • supplementary therapies alongside mainstream treatment.

What Will Not Be Funded

Examples include:

  • legal costs;
  • EHCP reports (subject to limited exceptions);
  • educational equipment;
  • family therapy;
  • recreational activities;
  • home schooling;
  • mobile phones;
  • most food supplements;
  • driveways;
  • general structural building work;
  • insurance;
  • e-bikes and e-scooters;
  • red light therapy (without GP support);
  • childminding;
  • hot tub maintenance;
  • cars;
  • loan repayments.

Experimental Treatments

The charity:

  • considers evidence and regulatory approval;
  • will not normally fund invasive, experimental or unproven treatments;
  • may request confirmation from treating clinicians;
  • parents remain responsible for choosing treatment providers.

Important Financial Rules

  • Campaign purposes cannot simply be changed because funds remain.
  • Remaining funds cannot be used for general structural building work to a home.
  • Parents cannot be reimbursed for purchases already made.
  • Invoices over six months old are normally not accepted.
  • Adaptation funding may require repayment if a property is sold within ten years.
  • Planning application costs are not funded.

Charity Objects

Funds may only be used:

  • for medical treatment;
  • therapies;
  • specialist equipment;
  • purposes consistent with the charity’s governing document and donor intentions.

Campaign funds cannot be transferred directly to families or another charity.

Campaign Closure

Campaigns may close if:

  • inactive for 12 months;
  • families breach the Terms & Conditions;
  • fundraising is misleading;
  • families establish unauthorised parallel campaigns.

Unused funds may ultimately be applied to the charity’s general charitable purposes where they cannot properly be used for the child’s campaign.

Trustee Discretion

Although these Terms & Conditions establish the charity’s normal policies, trustees retain discretion to depart from them in exceptional circumstances, provided decisions remain consistent with:

  • the governing document;
  • charity law;
  • donor intention;
  • the charity’s medical policies; and
  • the best interests of the charity.
