Therapy and specialist equipment such as hearing aid accessories and braillers will help to support Rudy’s physical development long term helping him on his journey to thrive, growing up with his rare condition.
Our youngest son Rudy, our Rudestar, was born at the beginning of 2025 in Salford with Bilateral Anophthalmia (no eyes or optic nerves). We later found him to also have moderate hearing loss.
Genetic testing found him to have a mutation of one of his SOX2 genes. This mutation is rare and therefore has little research and a large spectrum of potential related issues – his Anophthalmia, pituitary issues and hearing loss being the only 3 currently diagnosed.
Rudy is developmentally delayed but that doesn’t stop him. He is the happiest little soul and lights up the life of all around him. He is still so young but we want to do whatever we can to provide him with the absolute best possible chances to see him thrive as he grows no matter what obstacles get thrown our way.
