Little Elsie’s Big Steps
Just4Children wish to raise money to assist with the cost of equipment, physiotherapy and future treatments for Elsie.
Elsie is from Essex and was born in September 2017. At two weeks overdue and having to be induced, her birth became extremely difficult with Elsie being born not able to breath independently for about 20 minutes. She then spent a week on the neonatal ward having to contend with a sepsis and meningitis scare along with having feeding difficulties. Fortunately, Elsie’s health improved and she was allowed to come home at the end of her first week in the world. However, her difficulties at birth have impacted her development since.
After monthly physiotherapy and ongoing monitoring by consultants at our local hospital and Great Ormond Street, Elsie was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy in October 2018. Although a diagnosis has been made, Elsie’s development and ultimate ability to walk, talk and meet milestones remain uncertain.
Elsie is now 5 years old. The more experiences and therapies we can give her during these early years of development, we hope, will help her as she continues to grow. With this in mind, we are keen to increase Elsie’s physio sessions having enrolled her with a private therapist in 2019. She has also taken part in a number of extracurricular activities including music therapy, Sing and Sign classes, Speech Therapy, Hydrotherapy and Hippotherapy. During Covid, maintaining this level of activity has been difficult. However, we hope we can increase activity in these therapies and consider other therapies that will assist in other aspects of her development.
Given that Elsie’s development remains uncertain, so too does our understanding of what additional equipment she may need as she grows. This all comes at a considerable cost which led us to starting this campaign in 2019.
As Elsie’s parents we really want to ensure Elsie has the best opportunities in life so we are seeking to raise money for Just4Children to assist with the costs of the additional therapies and equipment that she may need now and in the future.
