Just4Children are fundraising for therapy, equipment and treatment for William who suffered a devastating brain injury when he contracted Group B Streptococcus at just 16 days old.
William is 12 months old from Lincoln. Over the past 12 months William has shown us what true bravery is. He really is our little warrior.
Unfortunately, at 16 days old William fell seriously unwell with Group B Streptococcus, which sadly resulted in sepsis and meningitis. Due to William having multiple seizures, he was sedated and intubated, spending 8 days on life support in intensive care fighting for his life. During this time, it was confirmed that William’s brain had been starved of oxygen and as a result, he endured severe brain damage.
With William being so young, it was impossible for the doctors to tell us how William’s brain damage would present itself until he reaches his key developmental milestones. However, we were informed it would be likely he will have Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. Only a short time after discharge from hospital, William was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus caused by the meningitis, resulting in him undergoing brain surgery at only 12 weeks old. Over the past 12 months it has become evident that William has global development delay. Due to this he requires regular physio, occupational therapy, and educational support. He also has little to no vision, for which we are currently awaiting a formal diagnosis and has regular input from a visual impairment teacher.
In spite of William’s difficulties, he is a very happy, content and smiley little boy. His drive and determination has proved inspiring to many. Seeing William go through what he has, has made us appreciate how special he is. He really is our little miracle, and we will do whatever we can to give him to best life possible.
Just4Children’s aim is to ensure that as William grows up, he will have the opportunity to access any specialised equipment and receive treatments and interventions to support him in his development. Donations will also allow us to adapt our home environment to meet William’s needs in the future.
