Kyle’s SDR Rehabilitation Journey

After Kyle’s SDR operation in USA in 2019, his recovery & rehabilitation stalled during COVID. But after 2 invasive hip surgeries in 2023, the road to recovery begins again, and the journey never stops.

Kyle is 11 years old and from Co. Meath in Ireland. He was born with Cerebral Palsy and needs a wheelchair. In 2019, Kyle underwent an operation – Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) in St. Louis in the US with the world renowned Dr T S Park.

The operation successfully cut and severed the problematic spinal cord nerves and the long road to recovery began.

Following 2 years of lockdowns that hugely reduced access to physiotherapy, Kyle underwent 2 hip reconstructions over 4 months in 2023.

With SDR achieved, structural improvement to both hips and no lockdown restrictions, Kyle is back undergoing intensive physio sessions and therapy courses in order to build up leg strength and capitalise on recent years of surgeries.

Thank you.
