Liam is only 4 years old and needs specialist medical treatment in Poland. Please help Just4Children give him the chance he deserves to live a more independent life.
My name is Justyna and I am a single mum raising four children. My youngest son, Liam, is only 4 years old. He has autism, is non-verbal and needs constant care and support. One of the hardest things for me as his single mum is knowing that Liam cannot tell me when something hurts or what he feels. I would give anything to take his struggles away.
Since Liam was diagnosed two years ago, I have never stopped searching for help. I spent countless hours looking for answers and specialists who could help my little boy. Eventually, I found a specialist clinic in Poland. Since then, we have been travelling there regularly for appointments, extensive testing and treatment, including intravenous infusions.
After specialist testing, doctors found signs of neuroinflammation and autoimmune activity affecting his nervous system, as well as Borrelia and Babesia infections. His doctor has now recommended the next stage of treatment, including three IVIG sessions and treatment for the infections.
There is nothing more painful for a mother than knowing there may be something more she can do for her child, but not being able to afford it. For the last two years, I have done everything I could to cover Liam’s appointments, tests, treatment and our journeys to Poland. I have never asked for financial help before. Writing these words is incredibly difficult for me, but this is not about me. It is about my little boy and his future.
As a single mum of four, I have reached a point where I simply cannot cover the next stage of his treatment alone. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know I have to give Liam every possible chance.
