Albie has global developmental delay and microcephaly and is undergoing investigations to understand his needs. Just4Children are raising funds to extend his private physiotherapy and help him access occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and resources to support his development.
Our beautiful little boy Albie means everything to us. Like every parent, we dream of watching our child grow, learn and reach their milestones. But Albie’s journey has been very different from what we imagined.
Albie has global developmental delay and microcephaly, with concerns about slowing in his brain development. He is not yet walking or talking and needs lots of support with everyday activities. He has difficulties swallowing and requires thickened fluids and feeding support. He is also undergoing multiple tests for his absent episodes, and we are awaiting genetic results, hoping for answers about his condition and what the future may hold.
One of the hardest parts of this journey is how lonely it can feel. As I watch other children naturally begin to walk, talk, play and explore, I watch my own little boy struggle with things many people take for granted. Milestones other parents celebrate naturally are things we can only dream of reaching with Albie. It can be heartbreaking, and sometimes I feel alone navigating the worries, uncertainty and emotions that come with his diagnosis.
In spite of everything, Albie is so loved, and we are determined to give him every opportunity possible to improve his condition. We already pay for private physiotherapy because we want to help him develop and reach his milestones. We would love to extend his support to include occupational therapy (OT) and speech and language therapy (SALT), helping him develop his movement, communication, independence and imagination through play.
Our biggest dreams are to see Albie take his first steps, hear his first words and watch him discover the world through his imagination. We know his journey may not be easy, but we believe every child deserves the chance to reach their own potential.
Behind every milestone is a little boy trying his hardest, and behind every small achievement is a family celebrating something that means the world to them.
