Just4Children are fundraising to provide Benjamin with regular therapy and specialist equipment to significantly improve his life and future prognosis. An early intervention here is really important.
This is Benjamin, aka Benji.
Benji was born prematurely at 26 weeks and 6 days. He weighed just 1lb 14oz. He became very unwell at 2 days old when a hole developed in his bowel, resulting in emergency surgery to repair it. He recovered from this and showed his bravery and resilience throughout his 10 weeks in the NICU, eventually coming home weighing only 3lbs 15oz. At 4 months old, we ended up back in hospital. Benji was critically unwell and we were so scared we would lose him. His blood pressure was extremely high, resulting is his brain becoming irritated.
Thankfully with some medication this was brought under control, and he is still undergoing lots of tests to try and find the cause of the high blood pressure.
Shortly after this hospital stay, we noticed Benjamin’s legs were stiff. He was referred to physiotherapy and began attending regularly, in between other stays in hospital. Suspicions were raised early on about whether Benji has cerebral palsy. As part of the tests for his blood pressure, Benji had an MRI which showed some damage to the part of the brain responsible for movement. This coupled with too much muscle tone and extreme stiffness in his hips and legs confirms that Benji has cerebral palsy. He is not able to sit or stand without help.
We want to make sure that Benji has access to everything that he needs to play and grow like other babies. Therapy and specialist equipment is vital and very expensive.
Benji is such a lovely and happy baby despite everything that he has had to go through. He loves to play, laugh and be with his big sisters, who he adores. He loves tummy tickles and cuddles.
Right now, Benji needs urgent early intervention in the form of specialist therapy and equipment to give him the best chance at a more independent and fulfilling life. But these life-changing resources come at a cost—£15,000 is needed to fund his essential therapy sessions and equipment that will help him grow stronger, develop movement, and experience the world like every child deserves to.
Why Early Intervention Matters
Time is critical. The earlier Benji gets the right support, the better his brain and body can adapt. Without it, he faces a future with more challenges and fewer opportunities for independence.
Every donation, no matter how big or small, brings Benji closer to a brighter future.
Every share helps his story reach more hearts and hands willing to help.
Please help us to give Benji the best possible start in life.
