Henry is aged 8 from East Yorkshire and was born 3 months early. Henry has Cerebral Palsy and Epilepsy. Just4Children want to raise funds for specialist equipment and physiotherapy to support his SDR rehabilitation alongside daily needs.
My name is Henry William Brown. I was born in December 2017. However, I should have been born in March 2018! I was very poorly when I was born given limited chance of survival. But, I was a fighter and came home a week before my due date.
When I was 3 days old, I suffered a brain bleed that left me with a permanent injury to my brain. As a result, I have a condition called Cerebral Palsy. Cerebral Palsy affects everyone very differently. I have Hemiplegia and Diplegia Spasticity. This means my legs have tight muscles making it difficult for me to walk without assistance and my left arm & hand mix up brain signals.
To help my Hemiplegia I undertake CIMT (Constraint Induced Movement Therapy) to help improve control in my left arm and hand. This will never function in the same way my right hand does but “Helpy” is now useful in helping me cause trouble emptying all my toys out of boxes and my favourite activity, eating lots of food.
I attend LOTS of neurological physiotherapy sessions including intensives during the school holidays. Since starting these sessions, I have learnt so many new skills like how to walk inside with a tripod.
In November 2022 I had Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy Surgery which cut nerves in my spinal cord, a rehabilitation therapy program for the next 10 years is imperative to ensure I maximise my potential.
