Just4Children want to help our brave Eriskay Ann, who lives with cerebral palsy and hydrocephalus, access the specialist therapy and equipment she needs to reach her potential, grow stronger and become more independent.
Our beautiful little girl, Eriskay Ann is aged 1 from Gourdon in Aberdeenshire. She has already been through more in her short life than most people could ever imagine.
Eriskay was born prematurely at just 30+1 weeks and spent 60 days in neonatal care. She suffered two Grade 3 brain bleeds, which led to hydrocephalus and a long, difficult journey with shunt surgeries and hospital stays. She has now undergone multiple brain surgeries, and her early start in life has had a huge impact on her development.
Eriskay has cerebral palsy, which affects her movement, muscle tone and ability to control her body. She is working incredibly hard to learn skills that many children develop naturally. She has recently made progress with rolling and is beginning to explore what her body can do, but she still needs a lot of support with sitting, moving, standing and positioning herself.
As her parents, all we want is to give her every opportunity to reach her potential.
Specialist therapy and the right equipment could make such a huge difference to Eriskay. Intensive, child-centred therapy would help us work on her strength, balance, coordination, movement and independence, while appropriate equipment would allow her to practise these skills safely at home and be involved in everyday life.
We want Eriskay to be able to play, explore, interact with her brother, experience new things and have as much independence as possible. We know there may be challenges along the way, and we know progress might not always happen quickly, but we also know just how determined our little girl is.
She has fought through brain bleeds, hydrocephalus, surgeries and countless hospital appointments, and she continues to surprise us with her strength.
