Kitty is 14 years old and has Cerebral Palsy. Just4Children are supporting Kitty to have the therapy and specialist equipment she needs to fulfill her dream of living an independent life.
Kitty is smart and very independent. She dreams of a future where she can be self sufficient.
In 2017 the first part of her journey was realised when fundraising enabled her to have life changing surgery, Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) at Bristol Children’s Hospital. Throughout the following years consistent weekly and intensive courses of rehabilitation has ensured Kitty is continuously getting stronger and getting closer to realising her dreams.
None of this would have been possible without the phenomenal support at that time from family, friends, businesses, local, national and international groups. We will be forever grateful to those that supported us. Human kindness is really a joy to behold.
Kitty continues puts 100% into everything she does and has been followed by many other young people with cerebral palsy and their families, some requesting to train with Kitty and her therapists.
What has become clearer during the intervening years is that physical changes that started during adolescence (such as growth spurts) means that cerebral palsy can continue to tighten muscles and reduce strength and mobility, risking undoing all the hard work that Kitty has been doing.
To prevent this Kitty needs to continue to access expert medical advice and support regularly ensuring she maintains and exceeds the physical advances that she has gained over the past 6 years.
