Just4Children are fundraising to provide summer camp therapeutic stays for Connor with the opportunity to regulate and socialise with his peers who use letterboards to communicate.
Connor is aged 11 from Limavady. He is non speaking and has dual ASD/IDD diagnosis. In spite of these challenges he is learning the Spell2Communicate method of pointing to letters on a letterboard to communicate. He was unable to learn how to use PECS and Makaton to communicate, so S2C Letterboards are his only means to convey his thoughts. This is not supported yet in his special school setting. We would like to fundraise for Just4Children to provide Connor a Spell2Communicate summer camp or half term camp therapeutic stays that involve conversing using letterboards to his peers that also use the Spell2Communicate method and participating in group lessons.
Connor would also benefit from a therapeutic stay that offers cycling in safe spaces as he cannot use breaks or stop himself but loves to cycle. Visits to outdoor forest settings are so regulating and therapeutic for Connor he is so calm and it reduces his anxiety and stimming. He is also very regulated when he attends lessons at Spell 2 Communicate camps and sessions at mid term break.
