Benjamin’s Smile for an Innowalk

Just4Children are fundraising to help us be able to purchase an Innowalk which is a motorised devise which will allow Benjamin to safely stand and move his body in a walking motion.

Meet Benjamin, our happy, cheeky 10-year-old boy who brings light to everyone around him. Benjamin lives with Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, and is Registered Blind.

In 2021 Benjamin underwent life-changing SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) surgery to reduce the severe pain caused by spasticity in his muscles. Before the operation, pain dominated his life. Since then, everything has changed.

With the pain gone, Benjamin has been able to focus on developing other vital skills, and he’s been making incredible progress in speech, understanding, and communication. We were told he may never talk, now, he doesn’t stop talking, full of laughter, and a superb cheeky personality that keeps us smiling every day.

But while the SDR relieved his pain, His body remains vulnerable from being still too long, affecting his lungs, heart, digestion, and muscles. That’s why we’re now trying to get him an Innowalk. He is growing, but the growth of his muscles can’t keep up and there fore the pain is creeping back in. The Innowalk is a specialist device that allows children like Benjamin to safely stand and move in a guided walking motion, even if they can’t walk unaided.

For Benjamin it would: help keep his lungs clear; improve his digestion and bowel movements; support his circulation and heart health; reduce muscle stiffness; and prevent contractures, thereby reducing medical intervention. Most importantly, it would give him the physical support he needs to continue thriving in all other areas, especially his speech, learning, and social development.

Benjamin has trialled the Innowalk and loved it! The Innowalk costs in the region of 28k, and therefore we are reaching out to seek the support of our family, friends and community to help. We also need to factor in the servicing costs. If you are able to support our journey we would be incredibly grateful and you will play a significant part in ensuring Benjamin lives a pain free life as possible.
