Aidan’s Adventures to Walking

Just4Children are raising vital funds to give Aidan access to life-changing therapies that will support his development and help him work towards standing, walking, and becoming as independent as possible.

Meet Aidan, our amazing little 2 year old.

Aidan hasn’t received his formal diagnosis yet, but very likely has spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. This causes tightness (spasticity) mainly in his legs but also in his arms meaning he is unable to crawl, walk or sit unaided. Aidan was born full term by a straight forward elective caesarean. We don’t know why Aidan has Cerebral Palsy but we do know that early intervention is key. The brain grows to about 90% of its adult size by the age of 5, which is why it’s crucial to do all we can now. This gives his brain the best opportunity to create new pathways to compensate for the damaged ones.

Aidan’s high muscle tone makes it difficult for him to move the way he wants to. His body can feel stiff and tight due to hypertonia, which means even simple movements take a huge amount of effort and can even be painful. Despite this, Aidan works so hard every single day. He gets one hour of monthly physiotherapy through the NHS but unfortunately that is not enough.

These funds would help Aidan receive additional physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, intensives therapy blocks, DMI, CME, a hypervibe plate and other specialist equipment. The therapies and equipment are very expensive and unrealistic for families to be able to consistently afford. This is why we are asking for all the help we can get to give Aidan the best start to life.

Our goal is simple but life changing — to help Aidan walk and be independent. We want to give him the very best chance to explore the world on his own two feet.

As we continue with Aidan’s journey, we will be taking part in fundraising events to help boost this page and get him every opportunity he deserves. Every donation, big or small, brings us one step closer to getting Aidan on his feet.

Thank you so much for reading Aidan’s story and for supporting our family’s journey. Your kindness, encouragement, and generosity mean the world to us.

Katherine and John
