Trystan is 8 years old and lives in Cilgerran near Cardigan in Wales. He has cerebral palsy (spastic diplegia) and we need your help to raise money for SDR surgery to give him a better quality of life and a chance to score goals!

My name is Trystan, I am 8 years old and I live in Cilgerran, near Cardigan in Wales.

I have cerebral palsy (spastic diplegia) and need your help to raise money for SDR surgery, so that I can score life changing goals in my future. I was born 9 weeks early and spent several months in hospital developing. My slow progress always seemed to be linked to me being a premature baby. At 14 months I was rushed to hospital with double pneumonia and spent 2 weeks in an induced coma on a ventilator in the PICU unit at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, followed by 2 weeks in the Noah’s Ark Children’s hospital.

At 18 months I was diagnosed with cerebral palsy spastic diplegia in my lower body. Having intensive physio therapy at Bobath in Cardiff and a dedicated team of physio at Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest I now walk with a frame, have to wear splints every day and have Botox injections. But, nothing holds me back. I try hard to do everything with a smile on my face. I love school, music, sport and playing with my friends. I play for Cilgerran Rovers under 10s who encourage me to train and play football with them. I would love to play football and score a goal without my frame.

As a family we have had great news that I am a prime candidate to have SDR surgery. Sadly, there is no funding from the NHS, and we need to raise £40,000.

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) is an operation used to improve spasticity in cerebral palsy. It will stop spasticity in the leg muscles which causes pain in the joint contracture and bone deformities. The operation will divide some of the fibres and will reduce stiffness and spasticity and will let Trystan be able to learn and walk on his own!

I am on the penalty spot, but need your help to raise the funds for the operation and post operation care. I know I am a part of a great team with my loving and dedicated family and friends, but I would like you to join my squad and help us raise the funds. Let’s get this into the back of the net and score my winning Goal!

Please join Team Trystan to help me reach my goal.
