The Movement Centre

The Movement Centre is a UK charity and specialist treatment centre. We are dedicated to supporting children and their families living with movement disabilities. We have a small but dedicated team who work closely with families. We provide a specialist therapy called Targeted Training to help children gain movement control. Targeted Training therapy can enable children to develop new skills and become far more independent.  This can have a huge impact on their life. It can also make a big difference to the lives of their family and friends. Through a course of Targeted Training therapy children can gain head control, so they can interact with their family; it can help children develop the skills to sit unaided, so that they can play with their friends. For some children it can enable them to walk, which means they can be far more independent!

Many of the children we see have one of the following diagnoses, such as Cerebral Palsy, or Global Developmental Delay but we welcome any family to come to The Movement Centre who may benefit from Targeted Training therapy.  We would recommend that you contact The Movement Centre to discuss how we may be able to help. Many of the children we support have one of the diagnosis listed below.

If you would like to access Targeted Training at The Movement Centre it is best to contact us via telephone, email or through our website. We can then arrange for you to have an initial discussion with one of our specialist Physiotherapists. They will be able to talk to you about whether or not Targeted Training might be of benefit to your child. Children can be referred to The Movement Centre in the following ways:

  • Self-referred by a parent or carer
  • Referred by a healthcare professional (for example your child’s Consultant, GP, or Physiotherapists)

If we believe Targeted Training therapy may benefit your child you will be invited to an Initial Appointment to determine if it is suitable. We offer families a free Initial Assessment, which is funded through our own fundraising and donations. This enables us to determine if a child is suitable for Targeted Training therapy. We then support each family with funding so that you can get the best for your child. We do this by subsidising the cost of therapy with our own fundraising and supporting each family to raise funds themselves. We are also working really hard on lowering the cost to our families, and putting payments plans in place to make it easier.
