The Movement Centre

The Movement Centre works with children and their families from across the UK to provide unique, evidence based therapy called Targeted Training. The children who visit The Movement Centre all have cerebral palsy, global developmental delay or other problems of movement control.  A course of therapy can help children to gain essential functional skills, which can make them far more independent. This can completely change their lives.

Targeted Training can make a huge difference to the lives of the children who attend The Movement Centre. It draws on specialist physiotherapy and bioengineering and has been developed using clinical trials, audit and research. It is different from other therapies because it works by placing the child in an upright position and using equipment to provide stability and support. This happens directly beneath where control becomes an issue. As each child makes progress the level of support is lowered so that they can continue to develop movement control. By doing this it mimics the way in which movement control is naturally developed in a young infant; from the head downwards.

The Movement Centre is the only provider of Targeted Training. The unique therapy can help improve movement and independence for children with various degrees of disability. Currently as many as 2,500 children are born every year in the UK who could benefit from Targeted Training.
