Just4Children are raising money to enable Thea to have life changing therapy to enhance her skills and to give her a more independent life.
Thea is aged 2 from Selkirk in the Borders. She was born with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, a condition where there is a lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain. Thea suffered grade 3 being the worst and went without oxygen for an unknown amount of time during birth due to negligence. This resulted in severe brain damage.
Thea didn’t cry when she was born or make any respiratory effort so was intubated and transferred for cooling therapy which lowers the baby’s body temperature to protect the brain from further damage. We were told it was unlikely Thea would survive and to make funeral arrangements but she proved everyone wrong and hascontinued to fight the odds ever since.
The last 2 years haven’t been easy. Thea has fought through epilepsy, dystonia (muscle spasms) and high tone and spasticity in her muscles. Although Thea hasn’t been diagnosed with cerebral palsy, it is very likely it will come.
Thea can currently sit, interact, play, and make lots of noises and say a few odd words on occasion. She continues to show so much potential and we feel if given the opportunity and shown the skills she will go so far.
So, this is why we have decided to try and raise money for Just4Children to help our little fighter. We are hoping to take her to America to the NAPA centre which includes numerous therapies like speech, physiotherapy, occupational and other specialist treatments. The centre would assess Thea and decide which intensive program would be best for her. The therapy alone for 4 hours a day 5 days a week over 3 weeks costs roughly £6,000. Then, there are costs for flights, accommodation and other expenses.
This has been a hard decision to fundraise but we feel that Thea would hugely benefit from the NAPA programme. So, please if you can even spare a few pounds or a share we would be fully grateful.
