Just4Children are fundraising for Sienna aged 4 from Peterborough to have SDR surgery and post operative therapy and rehab to assist Sienna in her determination for independence.
Sienna was born at 31 weeks following PPROM and infection. Sienna was then diagnosed at 12 months old with Cerebral Palsy which was confirmed in November 2018 with an MRI which showed serve brain damage also known as Periventricular Leukomalacia. In spite of this Sienna continues to push through smiling and is always determined to meet every physical milestone she can with the support of her AFOs, wheelchair, Rifton walker and standing frame.
Unfortunately, as Sienna continues to grow her muscles will become tighter which will result in the mobility she has worked so hard to achieve being lost and Sienna relying on her wheelchair full time. It will also mean that the daily pain Sienna experiences will also increase.
On Thursday 29th July 2021, Sienna had an appointment with Great Ormond Street Hospital who recommended that Sienna undergoes Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR surgery). This will not only improve Sienna’s quality of life but also allow for her daily pain and medication to be reduced, as well as enabling Sienna to keep her mobility that she has worked increasingly hard to achieve alongside Sienna being able to meet physical milestone which will otherwise be impossible.
Sadly, Sienna does not meet the tight criteria required for NHS funding therefore as her parents we are now on a mission to raise £50,000 for Just4Children to pay for Sienna to have life changing surgery as well as the intensive rehabilitation and physiotherapy she requires. Therefore, we are asking for everyone’s help and support in reaching our goal to assist Sienna in her determination for independence.
