Sick baby Jorja CAN leave Northern Ireland for Miami specialist

Sick Bangor baby Jorja Emerson can be discharged from a Belfast hospital to get specialist care that does not exist in Northern Ireland.

Her parents, Robbie and Carly, say the news is a huge step for the tot who was born with a rare condition, the side effects of which can be fatal.

And now the only hospital in the world that specialises in little patients like Jorja, has formally accepted her as a patient.

But there is a catch – and it’s a big one.

The family needs to raise £130,000 just to get Jorja, who is 17 months old, through the door of The Brain Centre at Miami’s Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Florida.

The cost includes a medically-assisted flight to the US and her initial time in the unit where staff believe they can help the youngster prepare for a full life.
