Help Scarlett achieve pain free independence, to have the freedom to explore and enjoy the beautiful part of the world we live in with her sisters!
Scarlett is a bright and cheeky 2 year old twin sister to Sienna from Newquay in Cornwall.
We had a traumatic birth at 29 weeks spending the early days of the girls lives in Neonatal. Both girls sailed through those early days of life and on day 23 a routine scan shown extensive brain damage known as bilateral cystic Periventricular leukomalacia (PVL). We were told then both girls were likely to develop Cerebral Palsy, leaving both unable to sit or walk independently.
We brought them home from the hospital, shell shocked and unprepared. With a 2 year old in the mix we really did have our hands full! We have spent the last 2 years doing hours of daily physiotherapy, embracing all the chaos and laughter 3 young kids bring. They have filled our home with toys, medical equipment and so many happy memories!
Scarlett has a type of Cerebral Palsy that causes pain and extreme tightness known as spasticity in her muscles. She is unable to sit unaided, stand or walk like any other child of her age. As a result of this tightness Scarlett often wakes in pain at night with her legs stiff crying out for help, which as parents is heartbreaking to hear. We have had discussions with medical professionals in her care about long term treatments to take this pain away. It has been suggested that a life changing operation called SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) would greatly reduce this muscle tightness and take away the pain. After 2 years of extensive rehabilitation Scarlett will be able move her body independently to live life using mobility aids to explore her surroundings!
Currently Scarlett doesn’t meet NHS criteria for this operation. So, time is of the essence to reduce further complications in her legs. Any time after her 3rd birthday is the window of opportunity. Using the funds raised with Just4Childrenwe will be able to pay for the ongoing physiotherapy and any equipment needed to achieve the best outcome.
Your donation will change Scarlett’s life. We cannot thank you enough for your support.
