Just4Children are fundraising for therapy, equipment and treatment for Rafe who suffered a devastating brain injury when he contracted meningitis at just five days old.

Rafe is aged 5 from High Wycombe. When Rafe was five days old he contracted meningitis which resulted in a significant acquired brain injury. This has left him with multiple disabilities and conditions including cerebral palsy (muscle tightness down the entire right side of his body), hydrocephalus (excess fluid in the brain), a moderate learning disability and a visual impairment.

However, what meningitis didn’t do was rob Rafe of his motivation, cheekiness and wicked sense of humour. He is the most fiercely independent five year old we know, but requires heavy support in order to live his life to the absolute fullest.

Rafe needs regular physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy as well as specialist equipment – both therapeutic and for play – and intensive specialist therapies including constraint induced movement therapy which has great success in children with his cerebral palsy, swim therapy and NAPA intensives, a world renowned paediatric therapy centre.

By giving Rafe these opportunities we can help him gain new skills, halt painful contractures caused by muscle tightness and allow him to live to his full potential. We have seen Rafe respond so positively to these therapies in the past, and as parents we feel we owe it to him to keep this going through childhood.

In 2020, desperate to raise £10,000 for intensive CIMT, myself and an army of friends and family ran 10,000km (that’s roughly the UK to India). It took us the whole summer, but we made it and over the two intensives we were able to give Rafe we saw amazing gains.

But as any parent of a child with a brain injury knows – the key to helping keep hold of these skills is repetition and consistency, which in turn requires more money.

So, we’re turning to Just4Children because we need to do absolutely everything we can for our fighter. At just five he’s been through more than most adults experience in a lifetime. Please help us make this all worth it with access to the very best provisions.

Thank you so much.
