Parents smash £80k target for little Izzy’s operation

Parents smash £80k target for little Izzy’s operation – but need more because of Brexit pound slump.

The parents of an inspirational young girl have smashed their £80,000 target to fund a life-changing operation for their disabled daughter – but face having to find more cash because of Brexit.

Identical twin Izzy Pearce, aged six, from St Columb Major, suffers from cerebral palsy, rendering her unable to walk properly and stand unaided.

In January her parents Ursula and Mike established an online fundraising appeal called Help Izzy Walk in order to help pay for a surgical procedure in the United States. The procedure, known as selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), is unavailable through the NHS.

Although the initial £80,000 target has now been reached, the slump in the pound’s value in the wake of Brexit means the family now has to find a further £6,000.
