Three-year-old needs a life-changing operation
This three-year-old needs a life-changing operation in America after having a stroke before she was even born
Couple will need to raise the money for little Ellie to have her operation in USA
Little Ellie Collier’s condition wasn’t diagnosed until she was 13-months-old – but it turns out her disability began before she was even born, having suffered a stroke in the womb.
The three-year-old from Brackla in Bridgend has Hemiplegic Cerebral Palsy, caused by damage to the part of the brain that controls muscle movements.
It means she has paralysis on one vertical half of her body, making it difficult for her to run, jump and play like all her friends.
Now her family, with the help of children’s charity Just4Children, are hoping to raise £65,000 to send Ellie to St Louis Children Hospital in Missouri for a life-changing operation called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).
The procedure is not currently available via the NHS in Wales but her parents believe that SDR would permanently reduce the spasticity in Ellie’s right leg and allow the development of her muscles.
