Hope at last for tragic Billy
A Co Tyrone boy who suffers from violent epileptic seizures has finally been told exactly what is causing them.
Eleven-year-old Billy Caldwell has lived with epilepsy all his life but in June this year his seizures returned with a vengeance, having become less frequent and severe over time.
It wasn’t clear why Billy’s condition seemed to deteriorate so suddenly but now his mum Charlotte has finally been given the answer. After seeking out treatment and tests in the U.S, Charlotte has been told Billy suffers from Hippocampal Sclerosis Epilepsy – a degenerative condition which attacks the brain, destroying neuro cells.
The diagnosis means he’s now within reaching distance of a type of brain surgery which could permanently stop his seizures and save his life.
