Cells4life partners with Just4Children
Cells4life partners with national fundraising charity, Just4Children
Cells4Life, the UK’s largest stem cell banking and processing company, has partnered with Just4Children in a move which will support families who are fundraising for life changing and pioneering medical treatments. Cells4life has a growing customer-base of families storing their child’s cord blood at birth in order to treat a specific illness or disease, and the partnership with Just4Children should enable more parents, who do not have the funding themselves, to provide their own children with the same opportunity.
Cells4life is already storing cord blood for one of the first children in the world to undergo a procedure using stem cells from their younger sibling’s umbilical cord to help reverse cerebral palsy.
Jay Shetty, 6, has been severely disabled since birth having been born via emergency c-section due to complications during delivery. As a result, he experienced oxygen starvation and now suffers from cerebral palsy, meaning he has never been able to walk or talk.
When his younger brother Kairav was born, parents Raj and Shilpa, decided to store his cord blood with Cells4Life, having learned that trials at Duke University, USA, have shown cord blood can reverse the symptoms of cerebral palsy. Cells4Life committed to help fundraise for the Shetty family, and they have reached their target meaning Jay will now receive the pioneering treatment.
“Jay’s story is exactly what we hope to replicate with Just4Children to ensure families are given the opportunity to improve the life of their sick child,” comments Wayne Channon, Cells4life Chairman. “We want to offer assistance to parents wishing to bank cord blood for a treatment with the support of Just4Children. Just4Children provides a platform on which parents can create a fundraising campaign to raise money for cord blood banking and the subsequent stem cell therapy. We will provide support in terms of raising the profile of the fundraising campaigns and our stem cell banking service at a reduced rate.”
This partnership also follows the recent news surrounding Holly Greenhow, who has cerebral palsy and has been severely physically disabled since birth. However, in October 2016 she received a £10,000 stem cell treatment in California and since returning home has shown huge improvement, even speaking her first words at the age of 11.
Wayne Channon, chairman at Cells4Life, adds: “These stories are so touching and serve to highlight the huge value in researching the subject of cord blood banking. You cannot underestimate how valuable cord blood could be in offering the first therapies that actually treat the damage that causes diseases such as cerebral palsy, rather than just the symptoms. We are very much looking forward to working with Just4Children and helping improve lives of children and their families forever.”
Just4Children fundraising families would also have an exclusive price of £1508.50 – normally £2155
