Brave little Izzy Pearce from Newquay is walking after having her life-changing operation in the USA

A six-year-old girl with cerebral palsy is now walking after successfully undergoing a life-changing operation in the United States.

In January 2016 her parents, Ursula and Mike, launched a successful online fundraising appeal called Help Izzy Walk in order to help pay for a surgical procedure in the United States, which costs upwards of £80,000.

The procedure, known as selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), is unavailable through the NHS, but in only eight months Izzy’s parents smashed through their target.

After flying to the United States earlier this month, Izzy underwent an operation at the St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri, which the family hope will change Izzy’s life and enable her to walk properly.

The operation was a success, and Izzy is now up and walking and working hard in her daily physiotherapy sessions as she embarks on her long journey to recovery.
