Billy set for life-saving brain surgery in coming days
Billy Caldwell will undergo brain surgery in America in the coming days which – if successful – will leave him seizure free for the rest of his life. It is believed that without this surgery the 11-year-old Castlederg boy would die as a result of a severe epilepsy seizure.
After a series of tests since arriving in Los Angeles on September 12, Billy’s mother Charlotte was finally given the news she has been waiting for, on Tuesday. World leading epileptologist Dr Douglas Nordli, who first treated Billy in Chicago nine years ago, diagnosed Billy with Hippocampal Sclerosis.
This is a progressive illness that if left untreated would see Billy’s epilepsy seizures continue to worsen and ultimately take his life.
A fact not lost on Charlotte who was told at home that it would be almost a year before Billy could have an appointment just to be assessed, a year which it has now been proven, he didn’t have.
