Just4Children want to fundraise for Mayank’s SDR surgical intervention to remove spasticity in his legs and improve his overall quality of life with reduced pain. In addition, regular therapy and specialist equipment will help Mayank further improve his mobility and selfcare.
I am Mayank 6 years old looking to raise funds towards my spinal surgery SDR (Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy) and post op recovery treatment and therapy.
I was born in Chertsey 5 weeks early and at 21st day of my life MRI was performed and was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy affecting all 4 limbs. As time progressed I missed all the milestones and am still not able to crawl, stand, walk.
I am always battling against spasticity (stiffness) which limits my mobility and often causes painful spasms. My parents learned about SDR, surgical intervention which could remove spasticity in my legs and improve overall quality of life. Recently I was evaluated for SDR at Alder Hey Children hospital in Liverpool. The SDR team at Alder Hey believe I could benefit from the surgery and offered to do the surgery.
Unfortunately, SDR surgery is not funded on NHS for non-ambulant children like me with higher level of cerebral palsy. The cost of the surgery is £16,000 at Alder Hey, while following the surgery I will need more formal physiotherapy and strengthening sessions for years, which will cost about £10,000 per year.
We are asking for a small donation towards the cost of the SDR surgery and therapy.
Thank you
