Lucas is 7 years old and lives in Cwmbran, South Wales. He has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy. There is an operation called SDR which can improve the quality of his life.
Lucas was born premature at 28 weeks along with his twin brother. During his time in the SCUBU unit we were told that Lucas had some bleeding on his brain which the doctors said would lead to cerebral palsy.
Lucas developed like any other child at first, happy, laughing, starting to crawl and then standing and taking a few steps. We were so happy, but then at 15 months, the doctor explained that Lucas had a lot of tightness in his legs. Lucas was then diagnosed with ‘spastic diplegia CP’, which causes pain, tightness and deformation is his legs.
As Lucas grew older his walking became worse. He is unable to put his feet flat. He dreams of running, playing and keeping up with his friends. He tries but often falls. It really does break our hearts to see him so upset about his condition.
An operation called SDR surgery, which is not funded on NHS Wales will reduce the tightness in his legs. This operation followed by 2 years of intensive private physio will improve his quality of life.
Please help us raise funds for Lucas.
