Just4Children are fundraising for costly specialist equipment and private therapy to give Lorenzo the best opportunity to thrive and flourish and help him become as independent as possible.
Lorenzo is a 3 year old little boy from Manchester. He suffered a brian injury at birth HIE. We were always told Lorenzo would struggle walking and talking, but after a lot of hard work from mum, dad and private and NHS therapies he is getting there and proving them wrong.
In 2024 Lorenzo was also diagnosed with epilepsy, resulting in pro longed tonic spasms some lasting over an hour with a hospital admission. Lorenzo doesn’t cope well with these seizures and usually ends up on a ventilator.
At the moment Lorenzo cannot speak, but he does find his own ways to try and communicate but this can sometimes leave him very frustrated. Lorenzo is generally always such a happy, little boy who does not let his challenges stop him.
At the moment we under NHS physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and occupational therapy services which he receives in the community. We have also done some private physio but with Lorenzo’s hospital admissions mum has had to cut down hours at work and these sessions have had to stop.
What Lorenzo needs in terms of therapy the nhs unfortunately cannot provide, which is why private therapy is something we are wanting to do.
After lots of research and medical advice we are wanting to enrol on to a course called the Doman method based in the US. The Doman Method is a system of home-based treatments designed to help children with brain injuries develop and progress in every area of function, with the ultimate goal of wellness.
We are also fundraising for a specialist bed. Lorenzo’s seizures happen in his sleep or are triggered by tiredness, waking up and illnesses. Lorenzo cannot sleep in a typical single bed due to his epilepsy and of danger awareness. Despite this Lorenzo does not qualify for a local authority funded specialist bed.
It has been a hard decision to fundraise for Just4Children, but we feel that Lorenzo would hugely benefit. So, please if you can even spare a few pounds or a share we would be forever grateful.
