Little Izzy finally having her life-changing operation

Little Izzy Pearce is finally having her life-changing operation in the United States!

An inspirational young girl from St Columb in Cornwall has flown to the United States for a life-changing operation after Cornwall helped raise more than £80,000 for the procedure.

Identical twin Izzy Pearce, aged six, suffers from cerebral palsy, rendering her unable to walk properly and stand unaided.

In January 2016 her parents Ursula and Mike established an online fundraising appeal called Help Izzy Walk in order to help pay for a surgical procedure in the United States.

The procedure, known as selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR), is unavailable through the NHS, but in only eight months Izzy’s parents smashed through their £86,000 target.

The family flew to the United States on Saturday, and today Izzy was undergoing an operation at the St Louis Children’s Hospital in Missouri that they hope will not only change Izzy’s life, but the entire family’s lives too.

Speaking from the United States, Izzy’s mother Ursula said: “Today (Wednesday) was the first time we met Dr Park. After all the time I spent researching and reading about him and his amazing gift, to sit in his office and to finally meet him felt quite surreal.

“Izzy was on form and totally rocked the appointment. Hearing from Dr Park that after SDR, Izzy will walk independently on all environments was the best news we could have ever asked for.”
