Just4Children wants to support Maia who needs intensive therapy to help her body stretch and exercise and improve her wellbeing to lead a more normal life.
Maia from Harrow in London was born at 32 weeks premature twin pregnancy, which was the scariest experience of my life. Maia has always had so much fight and is the strongest happiest determined little girl I know. Sometimes I think she is much stronger and without fear than me.
After Maia’s first birthday it was confirmed that Maia has cerebral palsy which affects her ability to sit, walk and speak.
Maia is now 6 years old and still cannot walk without support, her walking frame and she cannot speak like any other child her age. She wants so much to speak with me, her dad, and Sara, her sister, but she is saying in her own language the story of her day. It’s heart-breaking for us, because we cannot understand what she wants to say, but she seems happy. Despite this she doesn’t give up and pushes herself every day. All Maia wants to do is be able to speak with everybody and walk around by herself and be involved in activities that are challenging for her.
Maia is using her frame to walk around but it still restricts her as she can’t bend down to get toys or go to different areas in the park, so she gets very frustrated.
Maia needs intensive therapy of Conductive Education, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech and Language Therapy for her motor disorder and for delay in speech. She is using an Ipad to communicate but she really wants to use her beautiful voice.
She is going to a special needs school, where she is learning very interesting stuff and how to be independent. We have been doing therapy at the CPotential Centre since she was 3 years old. She loves to do activities and to work very hard for her wellbeing.
Maia loves to play and go outdoors in the park but she needs my help all the time. She is upset when she cannot do things by herself, like her sister
Maia wants to be as independent as possible and for Maia’s dream to come true would change her whole life, and as Maia’s dad and I are determined to make this dream come true and to let Maia shine.
