Just4Children wants to raise funds for Alex to be able to prepare for his SDR surgery and very intensive aftercare to help him to reach his full potential.

Alex is a fun loving, energetic, superhero loving little boy aged 5 from Sale, Manchester. Alex was born at 33 weeks gestation. After spending 2 weeks in the NICU department, he was discharged to come home. He was tiny but perfect!

We were concerned that Alex’s gross motor skills were delayed as he still wasn’t walking independently by age 2 years. He was referred for an MRI scan. The MRI scan showed the cause of his delayed gross motor skills as PVL (pervientricular leukomalacia) which is an acquired brain injury from birth or in the womb which caused damage to the white matter in Alex’s brain. This then led to a diagnosis of Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy.

Alex has tight muscles in his lower legs, causing him to walk on his tiptoes. He suffers with muscle soreness and pains in his legs and he cannot walk far. He dreams of being a superhero and playing football with his friends.

In August 2019 we received some fantastic news. After a range of tests, the team at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital offered Alex the chance of life-changing surgery called Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR). SDR is a procedure which will release the spasticity in his legs and ease Alex’s muscle tightness and offer him a chance to walk without pain and to thrive and build up his strength.

After surgery Alex will need to do a minimum of 2 years daily intensive physiotherapy. This money will go towards all medical and aftercare costs such as paying for additional physiotherapy (£80) per session. We will need to do the majority of this privately as the NHS aftercare is very limited meaning that we are looking to fundraise to give him the best opportunity to be able to live his best life!

It will also go towards hydrotherapy, strength and conditioning classes and any extra equipment plus any other professionals needed to give him the BEST aftercare possible!

Please help our little man to live his best life. He is such a loving, naturally funny little boy who is always telling jokes to make others smile. Please help us to make his future brighter.

Thank you
