Just4Children are a registered UK charity and are here to help families fundraise and crowdfund successfully under our banner for their child’s medical needs. We provide support for families in these related medical areas.

A campaign may include one or more of the following…

  • Life changing treatment for children with brain injuries;
  • Access to quality of life enhancing surgeries, treatments and therapies like selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) and stem cell therapy;
  • Access to life-saving surgeries and treatments;
  • Probable and likely surgeries, therapies and treatments as yet not diagnosed;
  • Respite short breaks and holidays for children with families fighting illnesses and disabilities;
  • Mobility, sensory, therapy and specialist equipment;
  • orthotics to relieve foot, heel, ankle, leg, and back pain;
  • New medical technology to enhance quality of life for house bound children;
  • Holistic therapy and support programmes for autistic children;
  • Adaptions to homes and living environments to improve quality of life – widen doors and install ramps, improve access to rooms and facilities – eg stairlifts, accessible showers, bathrooms or toilets, a heating system suitable for the child’s needs, therapy room – see further below;
  • Sensory gardens including features, surfaces, objects and plants that stimulate a child’s senses through touch, sight, scent, taste and hearing;
  • Supplemental therapies like animal, art and music or for exercise such as swimming, skiing and tennis;
  • Sports equipment to enable talented disabled athletes to participate in competitive sport;
  • WAV vehicles – up to 20% of total cost;
  • robotics such as a Trexo;
  • Service or assistance dogs for children with epilepsy and other conditions;
  • And any other medical areas the trustees feel will benefit disabled and sick children.

How We Can Help

We can help children with many different medical conditions. This includes the treatment and support for conditions associated with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), stress, attention deficit hyperactivity (ADHD), Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and demand avoidance (PDA).

We support sick and disabled children and young people until their 25th birthday regardless of their disability or health condition. The cornerstone of our work is to act as a safety net for families unable to get the medical help they need for their child. We are non-condition specific.

“Medical help” means all procedures and equipment for diagnosing, or treating any physical or mental illness, infirmity or defect.

We ask the parent or guardian to consider carefully which areas of the above medical support is required to complete our Application Form

By completing our Application Form you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.

Please note we can only deal with legal parents and guardians who have full parental responsibility. We can not deal with other third parties.

On receipt of this form following checks we grant you authorisation to go ahead with your fundraising and we will then set up a JustGiving Campaign tailored for your child’s specific medical needs.

Please remember that campaigns can not be open ended but must be clear and specific in their appeal and must explain the medical need and benefit. Robotics, WAV vehicles, adaptions to homes, sensory gardens or respite short breaks and holidays would all require a separate fundraising campaign. Any therapy visit costing more than £1,000 on one visit or a course of therapy costing more than £2,000 over time would need to be specifically mentioned in a campaign. In addition, any specialist equipment costing more than £1,000 would need to be specifically mentioned in a campaign. Campaigns will need to clearly prioritise medical needs too where there is a wish for example of needing both therapy and specialist equipment. Campaigns will last a minimum of 3 years unless there are mitigating circumstances. Also, note that campaigns will automatically close if no expenditure is incurred or donations received for 12 months. A campaign will need to be closed and a new one created every 5 years with monies from the first campaign moving across to the new one.

We ask you to cancel any other fundraising page as this causes confusion with the general public. We also ask you or any of your family or friends not to set up any Crowdfunding page or Facebook or Paypal fundraisers in the interests of transparency. All monies raised, eg from raffles should be passed onto us. Please also remember that the wording of the fundraising page should be precise in its appeal, eg for surgery, or therapy and specialist medical equipment. If seeking more than one particular area the other area or areas should be mentioned.

Just4Children take no fees and promise:

  • All monies raised in your Campaign will be available
  • We will pay the 1.9% + 30p card fees for UK donations
  • We will pay the 2.9% + 30p card fees for overseas donations
  • We ill pay the 5% Gift Aid fees
  • All monies from cheques and cash will go to your campaign
  • We will pay all cheque and cash bank fees
  • All monies from TextGiving donations via Donr
  • Donations from UK tax payers may receive 25% Gift Aid which we claim
  • Campaigns may last up to your child’s 25th birthday
  • Campaigns will receive regular updates
  • Campaigns will receive a QR Code;
  • Campaigns will receive 18 tins with artwork*;
  • We will contact your local press;
  • To pay suppliers immediately
  • coordinate payments to correct UK and overseas organisations for treatment and associated costs like like flights and accommodation

*unless campaigns have a target less than £5,000

Just4Children will hold any monies raised through JustGiving and other channels and will, upon receipt of invoices, pay the organisation or supplier concerned direct. This money is expected to cover first (although not exhaustively), surgery, therapy, treatment, long-term physiotherapy and equipment – and then, ancillary costs including economy travel*, car hire and standard 3 star (or maximum of £150 per night in the UK and abroad**) accommodation for a family of four, and a daily living allowance if away from home of £50 per family in the UK or Ireland or £100 per family abroad for each night away***. We can not pay ancillary costs without paying the medical treatment first.

Please be aware that accommodation, travel and living expenses can not be released for NHS or private funded surgeries, therapies and treatments unless this is specifically mentioned in the appeal. Also, travel and living expenses must be claimed within one month of the medical treatment. Flights and accommodation for overseas therapies and surgeries must be booked at the time of the therapy or surgery invoice.

For travel and hotel costs there is normally a maximum of two times the therapy costs unless there are exceptional circumstances. The trustees reserve the right to adjust this figure in exceptional circumstances.

Monies for overseas medical therapies and treatment can only be paid where the same is not available in the UK.

Monies need to be in place for any given therapy, accommodation and travel before any invoices can be paid.

*unless there are sound medical reasons for an upgrade

**a maximum of £175 inside London and inside capital or major cities. At discretion of Just4Children a higher amount may be permissible, eg at a time of high seasonal demand. Accommodation must be local to the medical centre.

***the allowance can be claimed 3 days prior to some treatment when abroad giving time to acclimatise

We ask you to deal directly with hotels and suppliers, Dial a Flight or a travel agency of your choice if air travel is involved, and physios or other therapists.

Please note that while we are fine with paying monies for overseas therapy we are unable to pay for full flights, hotel and an overseas living allowance for a family where a centre is clearly perceived as a holiday destination. We would be able to pay the child’s and carer’s share of the flights and standard 3 star hotel or accommodation and a living allowance of £50 per night away. We can not pay for any car hire, or airport or travel transfers, insurance or any other expenses.

We ask for an invoice to be emailed us from a travel agency or we will refund flights booked direct by the family.

We will only accept a maximum of two trips in any given year.

For a definition of specialist equipment we follow the guidelines of HMRC on vat exempt medical items:

  • wheelchairs
  • equipment to aid the hard of hearing, and low vision aids
  • specialist beds, chair and stair lifts
  • goods that have been designed solely for disabled people
  • specialist clothing including bibs*
  • specialist footwear*

Sensory equipment for therapeutic use includes products for multi sensory therapy and play, sensory toys and integration.

We are unable to release monies for maintenance items for hot tubs.

We may need to seek confirmation from a medical practitioner of the medical need and benefit of specialist equipment along with, for example, it’s age suitability.

A Service or assitance dog would need to be from a ADUK accredited charity where dogs are highly trained and their temperament tested.

Accredited assistance dogs:

  • have been trained to behave well in public
  • have safe and reliable temperaments
  • are healthy and do not constitute a hygiene risk observed over a considerable period of time
  • are fully toilet-trained
  • are regularly checked by experienced veterinarians
  • are accompanied by a disabled handler who has been trained how to work alongside their assistance dog
  • are recognisable by the harness, organisation specific coat, id tag on their collar or lead slip they wear

Monies for supplemental therapies can only be released in conjunction with main stream treatment like physiotherapy – and not on their own. Monies can not normally be released for general gym or spa membership. They need to be therapy specific.

We do not release monies for the following:

ECHP reports;

any legal needs;

any food or vitamin supplements;

driveways;

to pay back a loan.

*a maximum of 3 orders per year only in conjunction with main stream therapy

Be aware that should the preferred parental solution be an invasive, untried or untested treatment outside a clinical trial Just4Children will not support the fundraising for this child.

A campaign may significantly change in its appeal if in the opinion of the trustees there are extenuating circumstances. Do note that campaign appeals can not simply be changed because there are available funds. We give the donors a period of one month to seek a refund if they wish. Monies after this period can then be released for the new areas of the appeal. Remaining monies can not be used for an adaption to a home.
For long term fundraising campaigns should be closed after 5 years with a new campaign set up. Remaining monies from the first campaign will be moved across.

Do be aware that we can not refund monies for items bought by parents, nor pay for repairs for items bought by parents, nor pay invoices older than 6 months or invoices added before a campaign began.

You may need to repay some of the monies if you sell or move from your property within 10 years of any adaptations being finished. We can not pay for planning applications.

Finally, a reminder of our charity objects:

“To enable children in the UK and Ireland to obtain medical treatment, therapies and equipment which would not otherwise be available to them.”

Funds in a campaign are under our charity auspices and can not be transferred out to a family, or another charity or fundraising platform.

The charity must be run in a way that complies with our charity’s governing document and the law. We must deliver only our charity’s medical purposes and our charity’s funds can only be spent on supporting the delivery of these purposes.

Using charity funds or resources on other purposes is very serious. For example, we can not release monies for an EHC school plan or equipment needed for educational purposes.

We sometimes may request a medical practitioner including a consultant to confirm the medical need and benefit of a treatment, therapy or piece of equipment. Our medical advisor additionally advises us.charity has been

It is not permissible for a charity to be established to support one child, as all charities are required to show public benefit, which you can read about here: Government Charitable Purposes and Public Benefit

However, Just4Children is the umbrella charity which has supported hundreds of individual children’s campaigns. We enable parents to fundraise under the banner of a registered charity, with their very own campaign established for the benefit of their child.

If a campaign raises insufficient funds or surplus funds, then the funds will be used if appropriate, to fund the child’s or children’s needs in accordance with Just4Children’s charitable objects. If in those circumstances Just4Children are unable to use all or part of the funds for the benefit of the child or children in accordance with Just4Children’s charitable objects, then any funds that cannot be used will be transferred to be used for the general charitable purposes of Just4Children.

The charity will close a campaign if the target figure is reached and no more fundraising is anticipated, or if no donations or expenditure occur over 12 months, or if the family do not abide by our terms and conditions.

Once a campaign is closed any donations reaching us for this will be used for the general charitable purposes of Just4Children unless a second campaign is started.

Please read our Guide to Invoicing which must be adhered to and forms part of our terms and conditions.

This page acts as our terms and conditions. By completing our Application Form you are agreeing to these terms and conditions.

The trustees reserve the right to update the terms and conditions where there are changes to the law or other factors the trustees believe impact the charity negatively.

“I would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone from Just4Children.

Just4Children have been so incredibly efficient and helpful throughout our fundraising. Their vision is a world where all children’s needs are met and where children with disabilities and sickness and their families have the right to choice, opportunity, dignity and understanding. They are impassioned to improve the health and lives of children and ensuring every family has access to the equipment, services and treatments they require. They absolutely recognise that childhood is a critical and vulnerable stage when health inequalities can have effects that last throughout life. They are there at every step of this new, challenging and often lonely journey; from birth, diagnosis, in an emergency, or at a time of crisis.

I can honestly say Just4Children has managed Ethan’s campaign (at all times of the night and day!) with the up most efficiently, honestly and integrity. At the outset of this journey, many of you will know I was so keen that we set up our campaign properly so that all monies would go straight to a registered UK charity and used to to pay directly for Ethan’s hospital, therapy and equipment needs. I can honestly say Just4Children have been and continue to be absolutely fantastic!

Thank you so much Just4Children. We appreciate all that you have done and continue to do in the management of our Help Ethan Walk campaign.”
