Just4Children are fundraising to provide therapies, orthotics aids and other therapy equipment to help improve Evie’s quality of life.
This is Evie. She is a happy smiley 7 year old from Reigate in Surrey who just loves life!
Evie had a very dramatic start to her life. She was born 10 weeks premature and spent the first 6 weeks of her life in neonatal intensive care in Brighton being treated for respiratory distress, sepsis and necrotising enterocolitis (NEC).

As a family we were always worried about how small she was or that she didn’t hit those milestones but we were always reassured she would ‘catch up’. At age 2 we started to really notice that there was more of an issue and so started a long battle to be heard and to get her the help she needed. We are truly grateful to the NHS for saving her life and for the support we have had so far, but it was a battle.
At age 3 we finally received Evie’s diagnosis of periventricular leukomalacia (PVL) and cerebral palsy. Although her right side is weaker, it is her legs that are most affected.
At the end of 2021 we finally received the great news that Evie qualified for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) surgery. SDR surgery aims to reduce the spasticity (tight muscles and painful spasms) in the lower limbs. This surgery can reduce Evies pain, improve her mobility, improve her energy levels and endurance. Evie is such a happy girl but she is at the age where she now realises she is a little different to her able bodied friends and all she wants to be able to do is run and keep up with them without getting tired or hurting so much. Thats not too much to ask for a child is it.?
On the 29th June 2022 Evie finally had her SDR surgery. She is working very hard on her therapy and we are so grateful to the NHS for providing this surgery for her. The hard part comes now though, Evie needs intensive rehab every day, we receive some support from her community physios but we want to be able to give her so much more. A single session of physiotherapy can cost in the region of £150 and a single session of hydrotherapy costs in the region of £200.
All of these therapies will enable Evie to live a more comfortable life, to be able to keep up with her peers at school and to just live life to the fullest. Your support will help Evie so much.
