Conor is 5 years old from Cork City, Ireland. Conor has Cerebral Palsy which causes spasticity in his muscles. This affects his legs and severely restricts his ability to move and walk normally. Conor cannot currently walk unassisted and has regular intensive therapy to maintain and strengthen his muscles. Conor requires the support of his walker and needs a wheelchair as he has started school.

It is Conor’s ambition and wish to walk unaided into school. He dreams to have the same freedom of movement to play with his siblings and peers. Conor is a brave little fighter and he has worked hard to achieve the limited mobility he has which comes naturally to other children.

To achieve his dream he needs treatment from Dr T S Park, a world-renowned surgeon at St. Louis Children’s Hospital, Missouri. Dr Park specialises in a neurosurgical procedure known as (SDR). This procedure selectively destroys problematic nerve roots in the spinal cord that inhibit movement. Dr Park has helped over 4,000 children like Conor to walk and with this procedure the reduction in spasticity is immediate.

There is a two year waiting list for this surgery but we have recently been informed of a cancellation and Conor has been offered the chance for this life-changing operation. We hope to take the chance to fulfil our darling brave boy’s dearest wish – to be able to walk.  We hope this surgery reduces or completely eliminates the muscle tightening that makes Conor struggle every day and that Conor will have the chance of enduring less pain with the real possibility of a more independent life.

Conor is no stranger to life changing surgery as he was born with a heart defect. Before he was one month old he underwent major heart surgery and survived. He has fought for his life with determination and smiles ever since. Conor has had more challenges in five short years than most people have to cope with in a lifetime.

We are fundraising to give Conor a chance to become independent.
