Please support Just4Children fundraising for a drivedeck at Lochore Meadows Country Park, Fife for children who cannot operate a conventional powered wheelchair.
‘Every child has a right to rest, leisure, play and recreation’ (Article 31 The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF 2018)
Powered mobility provides children with the opportunity to experience not only movement but also, crucially, the potential to explore independently their environments and to initiate their own play. (Casey et al 2013, p.160).
For children who cannot operate a conventional powered wheelchair the Deck is a platform onto which the child’s own chair is easily transferred. The Deck’s smart technology enables the child to move the Drive Deck independently using a basic button switch.
Initially at Lochore Meadows the child will be able to drive along a track to feed the ducks and play on the wheelchair accessible roundabout. In the future there are opportunities to extend the track giving more play experiences for children and young people.
