Just4Children needs you to support Stefania to strengthen some parts of her body so she can have a better quality of life.
Stefania is one and a half from Bridgend. She was born at the normal term of 39 weeks. Stefania’s mother had a good pregnancy and delivery yet Stefania struggled from birth with normal breathing and had difficulty in swallowing.
Stefania has seizures which are kept them under control with medication such as the antiepileptic drug Keppra. She had poor tone at birth with no gag reflex, facial nerve palsy and severe feeding problems.
Stefania has spent 3 months in hospital trying to find out what is the condition that makes her the way she is but all the tests came back as negative. Currently she has an unsafe swallow and gastro oesophageal reflux and needs a nasojejunal feeding tube. She also has respiratory problems and secretion management issues requiring suctioning in the mouth to clear saliva as it stops her breathing properly.
The family have been advised that ABR therapy will help Stefania considerably. ABR is a unique, rehabilitative, home based therapy that is primarily used to help children with cerebral palsy and other physical problems. It is a gentle, hands-on treatment that brings about predictable recovery of the muscular skeletal system. ABR techniques are designed to strengthen the child’s core, working at a much deeper level than physiotherapy, realigning the skeletal structure and muscles bringing the body into more natural alignment. As this process continues the child increases in strength, reduces in spasticity, improves in functional ability and is much more comfortable within themself. ABR does involve lots of work and commitment from parents – but the results are well worth it.
Please give your support for Stefania to have this therapy as soon as possible at ABR Scotland.
