Lilac is a 3 year old from Cheltenham. She has Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and Just4Children want to help her fulfil her dream to walk independently.
Lilac was born critically ill at 34 weeks gestation. She has contracted Sepsis and her organs were shutting down. She was on life support and her condition was touch and go.
Our tiny miracle proved quickly what it really means to have fighting spirit. Once discharged from hospital, we thought the horrors around her birth were behind us. However, at around 8 months Lilac was falling behind in her milestones. Soon after she was diagnosed with Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy and we were told to prepare ourselves that our precious girl who had already been through so much might never walk.
Lilac’s fighting spirit has proved to be infectious. As a family we work so hard to fulfil her dream of being able to chase after her little brother.
We now need help to get Lilac’s Little Legs working. An operation known as SDR could change Lilac’s life. Sadly, it isn’t available on the NHS and it is followed by a minimum of 18 months intensive rehabilitation.
We would like to adapt and modify our garden to create a safe environment for Lilac to participate in daily physiotherapy post operatively. This will include daily use of her hot tub and spa pool for hydrotherapy purposes, whatever the weather. With astro turf and a physio unit, we hope to create a warm, fun and inspiring area where Lilac can go from strength to strength after she has had SDR.
We are also looking to have a therapy dog to further support Lilac’s ongoing rehabilitation. There are well documented benefits that a dog can bring to a child with disabilities that we believe will empower her to be as independent as possible, help to continue to grow her confidence and also provide her with a companion.
Lilac has the warmest smile you will ever seen and she was born a fighter.
