We are trying to raise money for Just4Children to help our daughter Darcie receive CIMT therapy.
Darcie was born at 35 weeks weighing 5lb 1oz in Leicester. She spent a week in NICU but then was allowed home. On the 11th day Darcie turned blue and a strange grunting came with every breath she took. The next thing I remember was being blue lighted to hospital and Darcie rushed straight into intensive care.
On the 15th day a doctor explained Darcie had contracted GBS and had meningitis. We were told they didn’t think she would survive the weekend.
We prayed for a miracle and it was answered. Darcie responded well to treatment and slowly made a full recovery. Once better, we took her home and began enjoying every moment with her.
At 4 months old we were advised she had a “space hopper head”. I rushed her straight back to hospital where she was given a brain scan and we were told she had hydrocephalus.
I remember breaking down unable to take anymore. Darcie was fitted with a VP shunt leaving her brain damaged and with cerebral palsy. Now 6 she’s well but unable to use her affected arm. We want to try CIMT so she can have a more “normal” life.
