Ajay’s Wish to Walk needs to raise the £40,000 for Just4Children so that Ajay can have life-changing spinal surgery and ongoing therapy at Leeds Children’s Hospital.
Ajay is 4 years old from Keighley, West Yorkshire who captures the heart of everyone he meets. He was born 9 weeks early weighing just 3lbs.
At two and a half years old he was diagnosed with spastic diplegia which is a form of cerebral palsy. This causes tightness in Ajay’s legs which makes putting his feet flat difficult for him, and makes getting around painful. Ajay is unable to stand independently and needs to use a walking frame as well as ankle splints for support.
An operation called selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) will permanently remove the tightness. This, combined with intensive physiotherapy, will help Ajay gain his independence and be able to walk without pain. Unfortunately, this isn’t available on the NHS.
SDR has been performed around the world with amazing results. Children who were told they’d never walk are not only walking, they’re running, jumping and riding bikes too.
We need to raise £40,000 to cover the operation and the ongoing therapy. Can you help?
