To get around Emily uses a walking frame and wheelchair but she wants that to change. After 2 major operations Emily’s wish is to walk independently. Please help Just4Children achieve her dream.
Emily is 10 years old. She was born with spastic cerebral palsy and has a lifelong ambition of wishing to walk unaided. She is a bright young girl who loves Strictly Come Dancing, ballet and swimming. It breaks our heart that she has never been able to walk independently so we are on a quest to get her on her feet.
In December 2015 she underwent a major operation to reduce the spasticity in her limbs which was successful. In December of 2017 she had a further operation that included the breaking of 6 bones in her legs and feet and the shortening and lengthening of muscles in calves and hamstrings. One of her procedures was to break both her femurs realign and reconnect with metal plates which make me wince just thinking about it!
The consultant said it was like saying ‘yes’ to Emily having a horrific car accident, but we were more mortified by him telling us that if she didn’t have the operation she would more than likely be in a wheelchair permanently. While he was talking to us, Emily pipes up, “Well, I won’t be getting my pins out anytime soon!” which lightened the atmosphere in the room.
Emily amazes us everyday with her attitude to life. Her commitment to her physio and rehabilitation which must be undertaken daily is 110%. She is a true inspiration and our hero. Our aim is to fund private physio sessions to regain the use of her limbs. The more money we raise the more physiotherapy Emily will receive.
Please help us help Emily.
