Alfie wants to walk

Alfie would dearly love to walk independently, and be able to keep up with his twin brother, and his school friends.

Alfie is aged 5 from Tullibody in Clackmannanshire. He and his twin Blair were born at 28 weeks weighing only 2lb 6oz and 2lb 13oz. Shortly after birth Alfie was found to have 4 major heart defects, and we were told to expect the worst.

From the very beginning Alfie has refused to give in, coming through a 15 heart surgery at 8 months, and battling through recurrent chest infections on the road to recovery.

Alfie was diagnosed with Diplegic Cerebral Palsy at 2 years old, when it became clear that his developmental delays were due to more than just his long recovery from surgery.

Alfie starts main stream school after the summer break, and is a popular amongst his peers. His greatest wish is to walk by himself. At present he uses a frame, and for long distances has to use a wheelchair.

The future surgical options for Alfie involve long painful recovery which we dearly want to avoid.

ABR we hope will give him the chance to be like any other kid, because that’s what he deserves. He’s already been through too much.
