The father of a boy from Par has spoken about the challenges he has faced while fundraising for his 6-year-old son’s life-changing surgery which …

Shortly after his birth, seven weeks premature and weighing only 2lb 7oz, Aiden Phillips was diagnosed with spastic diplegic cerebral palsy.

The condition affects the muscles in the legs, which can mean children have difficulty standing and are often unable to walk.

Aiden’s parents Alan and Oksana later discovered that his condition could be improved by an operation on the nerves in his spine, called a selective dorsal rhizotomy.

He had been all set to have the surgery on the NHS – but funding for the operation in the UK has now been withdrawn.

As a result, their only choice is to go private and have the surgery in the US, where specialists developed the life-changing treatment. In order to pay for the operation the family needs to raise at least £48,000.
